Swedish massage promotes psychological well-being through stress reduction and relaxation by applying long, slow and gentle massage strokes, which stimulate the release of the body’s natural endorphins. There are also numerous physical effects which boost the circulatory, immune, nervous, digestive and the musculo-skeletal systems. Swedish massage, often thought of as the "spa type" massage, offers a more general treatment of the area being massaged, with the ability to work a little deeper in areas of increased muscle tension. It is mainly used for relaxation or sometimes to re-energise.
Book Now Deep tissue massage works on mild to moderate levels of muscle tension, involving a firmer pressure than Swedish, and slow strokes to reach deeper layers of muscle and fascia, relieving chronic aches and pains. It focuses more on chronic pain, recovery from injury and postural problems, than a Swedish massage, by targeting groups of muscles.Deep tissue techniques also help to break down scar tissue and muscle adhesions which can disrupt circulation, causing pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.Deep tissue massage usually starts with a lighter pressure to warm up the muscles, followed by specific techniques to release adhesions and realign muscle fibres.It may occasionally involve some discomfort if the muscles are particularly tight, and if the body responds by tensing up it will be more difficult to reach the deeper muscles, so the client must say if it is uncomfortable, to allow the therapist to work a little longer on the superficial muscles.Deep tissue may not be suitable for some clients with medical conditions.
Sports massage incorporates some similar techniques to Swedish, but it tends to focus on particular muscles and their attachment points and involves greater pressure to work deeper into the tissues, which in turn produces greater effects. It helps reduce muscle tension by releasing adhesions and scar tissue, through the breakdown of cross-fibre connections within the muscle. By releasing tension, it will improve range of motion and reduce pain levels. Sports massage can be used to address a specific sports type injury, poor postural patterns and general recovery of the muscles after exercise.Athletes can use sports massage as a way of preparing for and recovering from an event by having a specific pre-event and/or post event massage.Although thought to be more suitable for athletes, sports massage is also good for those who experience stress-related muscle tension from work or day to day life events.
Book Now Pregnancy massage can help a woman adapt to the changes in her body during pregnancy which can cause discomfort. As the abdomen grows the body's centre of gravity shifts, causing changes in posture to realign your center of gravity over your hips. The resulting stress on the joints and muscles can cause low back, pelvic, neck, shoulder, or sciatic nerve pain. Pelvic ligaments also relax and stretch to accommodate the growing baby, which can cause sharp pains on one side of the pelvis.
Massage can be a wonderful way to relieve these aches and pains, but must be carried out by a therapist who is qualified in pregnancy massage.
The difference in techniques used in a pregnancy massage, compared to regular massages is the placement of pressure. Pressure placed on specific body parts during pregnancy, such as the wrists or even the ankles can prompt contractions, so subtle movements are used in a pregnancy massage to prevent any complications. This is generally a light and relaxing massage.

Come and have an induction massage from 39 weeks to help move things in the right direction.The days leading up to labour can be uncomfortable and stressful, and while pregnancy generally lasts 40 weeks, this can vary from around 37 weeks up to 42.The induction massage must be carried out by someone who is qualified and experienced, but you and your baby will be in safe hands as I was nurse and midwife. Induction massage may assist with the natural transition into labour by working on acupressure points in the back, feet and hands, helping to open up pelvic area, allowing more room for the baby to fully engage and stimulate the parasympathetic nervous system to encourage labour. This acupressure may promote uterine contractions and encourage labour to happen naturally. This combination will reduce stress hormones and increases oxytocin release, which is responsible for childbirth and bonding, and induces deep relaxation to allow the body to do what it needs to do.

A deeper colon massage is then given, followed by some lymphatic drainage techniques to assist with detoxification.

This massage using Himalayan salt stones falls somewhere between a Swedish and a deep tissue, and has the added benefit of absorption of essential minerals such as calcium, magnesium and potassium, and also 84 trace minerals, helping to maintain the fluid balance in the body, contributing to muscle and bone health, and impacting on cardiovascular health and blood pressure. Manual lymphatic drainage is a very gentle therapy which aims to improve drainage of lymph towards the lymph nodes without impacting on the deeper tissues. It can help with fatigue and fighting infections as the lymphatic and immune systems are closely linked, and detoxification by circulating toxins back to the organs that eliminate them eg. spleen and liver, hence cleansing the muscles and tissues.It can help to reduce oedema, including in pregnancy, and relieve pain and stiffness which occurs as a result of this.
Lymphatic massage is ideal for post surgical clients or those who have sedentary or stressful lifestyles, or are recovering from illness or injury.
Massage won’t get rid of cellulite but it may improve the
appearance by:-
- draining excess body fluid (through lymphatic
drainage)
- redistributing fat cells
- improving circulation and removing toxins
- plumping up skin and improving skin tone.
This cellulite massage combines a few modalities in one treatment and has the added benefits of aromatherapy. The results tend to be short term so repeat treatments

Having had a child with cerebral palsy I have become accustomed to treating muscle spasticity and imbalances as well as helping to prevent bowel obstructions. I also spent many years volunteering at disabled childrens sports camps, which involved various disabilities including amputees. NHS resources are limited and often tend to work alongside a basic protocol which may not always be the most effective treatment for your child who has individual needs. This is accessible and affordable treatment to help with associated bowel problems and muscle spasticity, I can also treat children with low muscle tone (athetoid CP). I can offer a full massage if the child will tolerate it, or it may be a case of gradually building up the length of treatment. Alternatively if a blocked bowel is either already an issue or something that is a concern due to a tendency towards constipation, you can bring your child for a very quick 10-15 minute abdominal massage, which is easy to fit around other day to day activities and appointments.

For clients
who like physical activities and like to show their muscle definition, when we
reduce fluid retention, we see better muscle definition.
Each body responds differently to
lymphatic drainage, and this is directly connected to the quantity of retained
fluid. Each client will have a distinct result. Each client has a different
lifestyle, habits or genetic structure which might contribute to fluid
retention and how long results last. Clients
with healthy habits tend to have less fluid retention so could start with one
session per week.
In the second week we will see if the results
are still there or not, how the clients felt and if their habits have improved
or not. Then we can reassess and indicate 2, 3 or 4 sessions per week if the
result is not sustained. .
Rungu massage originated in Africa and is carried out with a
smooth, polished wooden (eucalyptus) stick, known as a rungu or Knobkerrie, which in Maasai
culture, act as both a hunting club and an important status symbol for young
males.
Rungu massage is a long stroked massage
which uses both the shaft and the knob to offer deep stimulation as found with
a deep tissue massage, but with a more pampering feel to it. Rungu massage can improve both lymphatic and blood circulation, helping to reduce pain, soothe tired muscles and provide stress relief and relaxation.
The massage is carried out using kalonji oil with eucalyptus and menthol, providing anti-inflammatory properties, while taking in African musk incense which is thought to restore the integrity of the aura, help with mental fatigue, relieve stress and increase sexuality and sensuality.
A client may have painful areas that don’t respond to local treatment because the pain is referred from another area called a trigger point. I offer trigger point therapy as a stand alone treatment for TMJ dysfunction, clicking jaw and grinding teeth, and I may incorporate generally into either a deep tissue or sports massage.When these trigger points are treated, the referred pain then clears. Every muscle has potential trigger points, and while they may show no symptoms, without treatment the muscle tension increases and new trigger points develop, causing chronic pain conditions to gradually worsen and abnormal postural and movement patterns to occur.
